Episode Catchup: Breakfast with Jake & Hayley
S01E22 – Hayley Loses Her Phone
Hayley is late for work because she has misplaced her phone… somewhere in the house. It’s up to Jake to host the show with no clue what happened to Hayley, which gives Jake the opportunity to repay an earlier prank and pin a Part Time Hayley sign onto Hayley’s chair. Meanwhile, the town calls in with suggestions of where to look for the phone.
S01E23 – The Fire Alarm
It’s the early hours of the morning, and Hayley’s family are woken suddenly by a fire alarm… that they didn’t know they had. After evacuating outside and calling the fire brigade, it turns out the fire alarm is Hayley’s new alarm clock, that she bought yesterday after losing her phone. This morning, we say thank you to all of our first responders.
S01E24 – Giant Gardeners
Hayley tries to grow a vegetable garden on the weekend with lots of impatience and little success. Jake only knows how to grow things by the hectare, with lots of tractors. As the team put it to the listeners to solve Hayley’s gardening problem, it becomes surprisingly apparent that the town is full of people who grow giant prize-winning vegetables.
S01E19 – Hayley Wins a Blue Ribbon
It was Hayley’s dream. Put Grazer in a pink saddle and win the dressage event. But things take a turn for the unexpected, as a prize winning rooster escapes, a prize winning cake goes flying through the air, and Hayley suddenly finds herself ushered through a gate to accidentally lead the grand parade. Hayley wins a blue ribbon – just not how she planned.
S01E20 – The Ghost Cow
A mysterious white cow is roaming the streets after dark, appearing from the fog, munching on roses and leaving some very suspicious clues behind. Hayley is convinced it could be a ghost, while Jake blames a broken fence. But with mysterious sightings and plenty of listener theories, can they finally solve the bizarre case of the Midnight Moover?
S01E21 – Jake on the Chicken Farm
Jake’s latest side hustle has him fixing fences, learning farm biosecurity and keeping a very close eye on 30,000 curious chickens. But one feathered supervisor, Inspector Cluckles, seems particularly interested in his work. Add escape plans, chicken traffic jams and Hayley’s wild theories, Jake’s new job becomes anything but ordinary!
S01E16 – Preparing Grazer
Hayley is rehearsing with her horse Grazer for the town show coming up on the weekend, aiming to win a coveted Blue Ribbon. From the stables to the warm-up ring, this morning is all about horse people… packing the float, dressage rehearsals, boots and saddles, while Jake is just waiting for the wood chopping.
S01E17 – The Sheep Rustlers
Jake’s Dad is looking for some sheep to mow the lawn under the clothesline, and is offered a deal so good he can’t turn it down… from a guy at the pub. The next morning, the town wakes up to reports of sheep rustlers coming through overnight, and Jake’s Dad is suddenly the owner of an empty wallet and three bootleg sheep.
S01E18 – One Sleep Until The Show
The town agricultural show is on this weekend, and the whole town is busy preparing for it. From burning cakes in the oven and training prize roosters, to fitting horses with new pink saddles, everybody has something to do. Meanwhile, the carnies are in town stealing anything that is not tied down.
S01E13 – Jake Buys A Chainsaw
While Hayley is giving Jack grief for calling in sick yesterday, she discovers he then spent the rest of the day buying a chainsaw. Meanwhile, Hayley has skipped breakfast not wanting to be late for work in case Jake didn’t show up for a second day in a row. Hayley is so hungry and talking about food, she causes the local bakery to sell out of vanilla slices.
S01E14 – The Great Town Show
The town agricultural show is coming up next weekend, and Hayley has been preparing her horse Grazer with a sparkling new pink saddle. Jake and Hayley ask listeners to call in with their funniest town show memories, and the calls come rolling in. From Wood chopping and dodgem cars to carnies stealing caravan power cords, the town show has it all.
S01E15 – The Duck Farm
Jake has found a dirt bike he wants to buy and needs to raise some cash… quickly. The town responds with all sorts of job ideas, from emu chaser and rock picker, to cleaning grain silos, mustering goats and picking pumpkins. However, one suggestion keeps turning up over and over again. Simply, “The Duck Farm”. What could possibly go wrong?
S01E10 – Tractors & Terrible GPS Directions
From bottle feeding baby lambs to hosing down milking sheds, Jake explains just about anything you can buy in a store comes from dirt and diesel. Even tractors today have GPS that guide them within inches for perfectly straight field rows – so why can Hayley never seem to get GPS directions right?
S01E11 – Things You Never Intended To Buy
After yesterday’s story from a listener that followed their GPS down a dirt road until they couldn’t turn their caravan around, today is all about caravans, driving and towing adventures. Why is it when you start reversing a caravan, people appear out of nowhere… with popcorn ready to watch the chaos?
S01E12 – Hayley Breaks The Power Grid
Jake calls in sick for work, leaving Hayley in charge of the radio studio and hosting the breakfast show by herself. It doesn’t take long before Hayley pushes the wrong button and sends the radio studio into meltdown. As it turns out, it’s a local town power outage. But Hayley thinks it’s all her fault.
S01E07 – Country Weddings
The town has lost it when yesterday Jake put the call out for matchmakers to line up Hayley with a date. Hayley goes through the list of eligible bachelors and finds a reason to reject every one of them. Besides, who wants the chaos of weddings, best man speeches, and trying to fit your horse into your wedding?
S01E08 – Country Weekends & Town Gossip
Its Friday and Hayley says the whole country feels happier today, as she dreams of the perfect country weekend only to discover that Jake isn’t a romantic type at all. He’s already planning a bonfire after a big night at the pub, which leads to all the crazy stories you might hear down the pub in a small town.
S01E09 – Aviation Disaster & First Class Hayley
Thinking she is about to witness a dramatic aviation disaster in their small town, Hayley takes cover as a plane flies low overhead on her way to the studio. Once Jake explains all the things that go into running a farm – like crop dusting – Hayley turns her mind to all the luxurious destinations she can fly first class.
S01E04 – Injury Buddy Monday
Its the best episode yet – after talking up an action-packed weekend, Jake & Hayley return injured and bandaged from head to toe after all the fun leads to unexpected injuries. Despite their injuries, the team push on with the shift while Jake explains where it all went wrong with the dirt bike, and Hayley explains where it all went wrong with her horse.
S01E05 – Country First World Problems
Jake & Hayley are starting to feel a little better after the weekend’s injuries, and despite feeling a little sore with limited movement, start to realise they are not that badly injured after all and really they are complaining about first world problems. That leads them to ask, what are Country first world problems?
S01E06 – Country Dating in a Small Town
Hayley discovers that the whole town knows more about her life than she does, and the Country Women’s Association is on a mission to get her on a first date. Only Hayley isn’t having a bar of it, because dating in a small town can only lead to disaster. Meanwhile, Jake is sizing up his dirt-biking single life and decides he doesn’t want a relationship either.
S01E01 – Living In The Country (Our First Radio Show)
It’s Jake & Hayley’s first day at their new job hosting breakfast country radio. Hayley has left the bakery – where she was nearly fired for talking too much – for her big break in radio… where she gets paid to talk. Meanwhile, the farm still hasn’t noticed Jake is missing. Can these two country misfits make it through their first shift without being fired?
S01E02 – Country Dads are Absolute Legends
Country dad are a tough lot. Jake & Hayley explore men’s shed culture, weather talk, pub nicknames, backing trailers, farm fails, and stories about things that absolutely should not have been towed. Hayley makes a quick stop into the supermarket, only to learn that country small town supermarkets are never a quick stop when everyone knows you.
S01E03 – Country Music Sounds Better on Fridays
It’s Friday and Jake & Hayley have made it to the end of the week in their new job. Their minds have already checked out ready for the weekend, full of road trips, road snacks, roadside attractions, country pub stories and hilarious tales of camping disasters.
